Christmas wishlist meme.

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 5:52 PM
I don't think I've done this for a couple of years, but it is always a lot of fun. Lots of good memories ^_^

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Step Two
- Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Question.

Photoshop HELP!

Beautiful icon/graphic making friends, it has been a long time since I have had access to photoshop and I went to buy it the other day but I am not sure which to get. Is the newest one, Photoshop Elements 8 the best one? Or is Elements different from the older ones but not as advanced? Which version do you recommend? Any information would be lovely. :)

Vancouver says, Hello, eh!

  • Dec. 7th, 2009 at 2:00 PM
Hello from Vancouver!

Sometimes, cities and even towns have magical buildings full of books called libraries that also have access to the wide world of the interwebs. Because my internet at home isn't up yet, I have traveled far and wide and am sitting in one such magical building right now. Woohoo!

Move-in was great, everything's going well. Thursday was like a dream; it seems so surreal. It's still sinking in.

Tomorrow the grocery store opens downstairs which is very exciting. The drugstore has opened the day before I got there so luckily I was able to get some basic things from them. I am working on getting internet and cable. In the meantime I have marathoned Being Erica and beaten Katamari Damacy! I want to get the TV service up and running so I can watch Being Erica when it's broadcast here!

Only have 25 minutes left on the computer so I'm going to research cable companies and maybe phone. I need to eat lunch... I'll probably do so after this; this is the main branch of the library, I think, so it has food services downstairs. Exciting! Ja ne for now. ♥

Holiday Ficlets! Request 'em here!

  • Dec. 7th, 2009 at 11:24 AM
The third (almost) annual holiday ficlet request post!

This is an open invitation to request drabbles/ficlets for the holidays. I am self-imposing a max of 500 words (unless, of course, I get ridiculously inspired).

Fandoms )

With a good prompt, I might also be able to dredge up:
Avatar: the Last Airbender (limited to Zuko and Uncle Iroh and maybe Sokka)
Leverage (uh, maybe? really maybe)
Supernatural (have only watched up to S3)
SGA (gave up mid-S2?)

    Notes:
  1. I don't do "Christmas" themed, unless it is something that fits in canon. For example, the Meine Liebe boys would celebrate a Germanic Christmas (and I'd have to re-research that. >.< ).
  2. If you don't see a fandom here, but would like to request it anyway... try me. There are some I could be talked into, and others that might kill me to try and write. ^_^
  3. It doesn't have to be pairing-centric. I can (and do!) write gen as well. I can do fluffy kitten fic.
  4. A prompt of some sort would be great, but is not required.
  5. I will post the drabbles sometime between now and Old Christmas Day (Jan 6th). ... at least, that's the plan.
  6. This will be a sticky post until Dec 21st, so it won't get lost on my journal.

Hit me! ^_^

...I think I didn't do this last year. Oh right, because we were packing and moving and insane. Aheh.
2007 ficlets.
2006 ficlets.

I'm like supposed to be updating and shit whoops

lot going on

brb when life isn't hectic

oh and btw did you guys know Brittany and Santana are totes fucking hahahaha I loooove Glee

oh and I just downloaded a shitload of NLT even though it really is mediocre at best pffffft IDGAF, suck my dick. Artie is going to sing me to sleep tonight <3
So I spent this weekend utterly exhausting myself in care of children who will forget me in a few days' time. I got no work done whatsoever, was harried from 6am to midnight including mealtimes, and witnessed a lifetime's worth of spit and tantrums.

...Okay, I admit it, I fell in love. :|

ramble ramble )

And in conclusion, I think this entry and this weekend have completely exhausted my tolerance for children. It's all well and good having cute little kids to hold and to hug for a weekend, and already the whole time there was kind of this feeling of ahh-get-it-away-from-me. Can you imagine having to deal with one, constantly, for however many years it takes for them to learn to fold their own damn laundry? Yeah.

I should call my mom soon.

Just a quick friendslist check: am I the only one who is not receiving comment notifications via email? Last time this happened they never reached my inbox, so I thought I'd double check.

Bleach 384: the use of defense mechanisms

  • Dec. 5th, 2009 at 4:09 PM
I am a Psychology nut, and so I occasionally like to get my geek on. One aspect that stuck out in the recent chapter was the possible defence mechanisms that one of the characters was utilising. I thought I’d have a little fun and have a look at both the character and some of those possible defense mechanisms in closer detail.

Disclaimer: Psychology is a lot of fun to play with, but it’s severely limited when dealing with fictional characters ^_^. The characters aren’t real, and so applying psychological concepts that ARE meant for real beings is always expanding the concepts beyond what they were meant for. So, just because something might make sense from a psychological POV doesn’t mean that was actually what was happening in the fictional story for the fictional characters. Sometimes a character is just a jerk because he’s filling a role, not because he has a personality disorder.

Quick notes on defense mechanisms (known from here on in as DM because I am lazy): DMs are used when a person is unable to deal with the anxiety that particular emotions, thoughts, or events inspire. It’s common for them to develop specifically as a result of trauma, which makes the discussion below particularly relevant to the character I’m applying them to. While DMs may seem to be a positive thing as they may allow a person to engage in their lives ‘as normal’, very few actually are – especially if they are used for any length of time. The higher types of defense mechanisms (such as humor) are considered to be less damaging and more sophisticated than lower forms of DMs such as denial, but that is addressed further in the babbles below.

I had absolutely no inspiration for the prompt this week, but I'm tired of missing week 1, and I'm not going to come up with anything better in the scant minutes I have before we leave, so I decided to just whip this up and post it. Please enjoy, lololol.

For Brigit's Flame prompt: cue.

one day I'll write something good. I promise. )

Fandom joys colliding. 8D

  • Dec. 4th, 2009 at 2:32 AM
Kevin McHale was on an episode of The Office. Season four, episode three to be precise. He's the pizza delivery boy who Michael kidnaps and who steals his weed from Dwight's farm. He is surly and has earrings and flips Michael off. I am dying of love and joyfulness.
this life thing )

Right, I finally gave in and got into Glee! About two weeks ago, actually.

The fandom is kicking, yo. Not like "kicking ass". Just kicking. Like an annoying fetus. I'm not sure why Puck/Kurt is such a popular pairing, but after watching some interviews, I am of the conclusion that Mark Salling is awesome. Seriously, have you seen the 10 cool things interview? Mark's favorite thing is corvids. Corvids. "That's the classification of birds that includes crows, ravens, magpies, and jays..." I also can't stop watching Dianna Agron interviews. She's so pretty, and she seems so sweet. Absolutely lovely cast, even if the plot of the show is essentially... a soap opera in high school.

This entry is such a disjointed mess, I'm kind of embarrassed. It's just that I have all these fragments of entries-that-I-meant-to-post floating around my head, and squeezing them all out at the same time is never pretty. No.

On the bright side, I just cleaned my room today. I like having a clean room.
The Onemanga scanlation for the chapter is now up, and there are some key differences. I generally tend to put more weight on the Onemanga team because they're goal isn't quickness (not that I disapprove of early scanlations!), plus their translations seem to match up more to fan translations found on the web. Some of the other scanlation teams also tend to resort to clunky cliche phrases that seem to be very much indirect translations.

That said, I have no idea which translation is right this time. One difference (number 3) is especially different.

Under the cut: spoilers and random thoughts about those spoilers. The usual stuff.
